At Back Alley Boards, we transform old skateboards, snowboards, and surfboards into unique and functional pieces of art. Based in New Hampshire and inspired by our East Coast roots, every board is upcycled with care and passion, preserving its history through sustainability and creativity.
THE RIDE LIVES ON.
HOW IT STARTED
It all began when a friend had a stack of old snowboards that were up for grabs. The three of us got talking about using them for an art project, but quickly realized it could be more than just a one-off idea: we wanted to build something meaningful together.
From there, Back Alley Boards was born. Three artists, three distinct styles, and one shared vision.
We’re former art school kids with a passion for board sports and deep ties to our communities. Our work is inspired by our adventures in the mountains and terrain parks of New Hampshire, the waves of the seacoast, and our favorite local skateparks.

Local pickup only (New Hampshire)
If you’ve got an old skateboard or snowboard you don’t ride anymore but aren’t ready to part with, we’ll turn it into a custom art piece. We work directly on your board using a mix of spray paint, acrylics, and markers to create something new while keeping the soul of the original deck intact. Every board is sealed in a glossy finish to protect the artwork and give it a polished, long-lasting look.
This is a collaborative process. You can come to us with a full idea, a loose theme, or nothing at all. Whether you want bold graphics, subtle patterns, personal references, or just something that looks cool hanging on the wall, we’ll work with you to bring it to life.
We’re currently only accepting local orders. If you’re in New Hampshire or nearby, you can drop off your board in person or meet us at one of our events or pop-ups.

Details & FAQs
Turnaround: Custom orders typically take 4–6 weeks.
Supplying a board: Pricing reflects customers supplying their own board. If you'd like to use one from our own collection, we can do so for an additional $25.
Board condition: Boards from our collection will vary in condition and size. Since they are upcycled, they may also show signs of wear. These boards are intended as art pieces and are not guaranteed to be rideable.
Rideability: All of our boards are upcycled with the intention that they won’t be ridden again. If you provide a board that’s still rideable and want to keep it that way, let us know and we’ll make sure the artwork doesn’t interfere with its performance. This may affect paint placement, though. For example, we won’t paint the base of a snowboard, and surfboard artwork will be limited to certain areas to help prevent damage or fading during use.
